2017: A year to get better together

Happy New Year from the Baptist Technology Services (BTS) team!

We enjoyed 2016 as we worked toward increased engagement of our teams, as well as with our end users and patients. Through synergy and a common focus on the mission and four Rs, we enjoyed great success in a variety of key initiatives that we shared in this Leader column, Tech Spot. We hope you learned more about BTS by reading Tech Spot.

Our team is growing in numbers and skills to provide ongoing support for your key roles and projects across our great Baptist Memorial Health Care system. This year promises to be busy as our system grows as well. Here are a few highlights of our work:

  • We are focused on work with the Mississippi Baptist Health Systems to bring them our Baptist OneCare (BOC) electronic medical record and supporting products by February 2018.
  • We continue working to prepare our Baptist North Mississippi team for their move into the new Oxford hospital in November 2017.
  • We are working with the architects and administrator and CEO Brian Welton to begin the technical design for the new Baptist Memorial Hospital in Crittenden County, Arkansas.
  • Across the system, we use the Baptist Management System tools (A3, KATA, Training Within Industry) to solve problems and reduce variation. We are maturing the Project Management Office to provide added strength and consistency in the implementation of all phases of all projects that involve technology. Through enterprise analytics, we will use data in new ways to improve our clinical and financial outcomes. The teams are working on a BOC dual upgrade for June 10, 2017.
  • We are focused on increasing the security of all data going in, around and out of our health system while also determining the best strategy for business continuity/ disaster recovery to be ready to support you in the event of a planned or unplanned outage/disaster anywhere in our hospitals, clinics or data center.

As you know technology is the “new electricity.” We rely on it to be available at all times and have to rapidly adjust when it fails. That is why we practice downtime drills. We cannot do our work alone–we must have your help in planning and deploying all of our work to get better together. The patients and families that we serve remain at the heart of our daily activities.
