Acute TeleNeurology

Last month, five of our hospitals – Baptist Union City, Baptist Tipton, Baptist Collierville, Baptist Women’s Hospital and Baptist Booneville – began offering Acute TeleNeurology, giving these facilities the power to save even more lives. They join Baptist Memphis, Baptist Desoto, Baptist North Mississippi, Baptist Union County and Baptist Golden Triangle that have this important technology.

Acute TeleNeurology brings specially trained neurologists to hospitals through technology. Using a computer on a cart, a physician can consult a neurologist when treating a patient who may have suffered a stroke, seizure, severe headache, aneurysm or other neurological condition. The neurologist can evaluate patients and help the onsite physician deliver treatment. The physicians’ notes are included in patients’ MyChart medical records, which follow them if they need additional care.

A few minutes can mean the difference between life and death for people with neurological emergencies. Before Acute TeleNeurology, neurology patients would have to bypass these five hospitals, even if they were closer. Now, patients can come to these facilities, knowing they can deliver world-class neurological care in minutes.

We are always looking for ways to bring top-quality care close to home, and we’re blessed to live in a time when telemedicine allows us to provide advanced care anywhere. Through telemedicine, we’re bringing enhanced care to all our hospitals—including those in rural communities.
