During our Baptist Leadership Development Intensive (BLDI), we exchanged gifts with our newest team members at Mississippi Baptist Health Systems (MBHS). We gave them marble scripture plaques, similar to those that hang in our hospitals. They presented us with a large cross with slits where team members, patients and visitors can insert written prayer requests. A cross just like this one sits in the lobby of Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Every week, the hospital’s chaplains collect all the prayer requests and pray over each one of them. We will do the same with prayer requests that are placed in the new cross, which is in the main lobby at Baptist Memphis.
During our BLDI, a small group of leaders formed a circle around the cross and prayed for our new combined system. Team members also put a number of prayer requests into the cross during BLDI. Those requests traveled with the cross to Baptist Memphis, and our chaplains have prayed over them, as well.
I hope you have a chance to see the cross in person at Baptist Memphis. It is a touching reminder of the sacrifice Jesus made for us, and it’s another way we can carry out our mission to our patients, our team and our community. I cannot thank our MBHS family enough for their generosity.
