Board-certified internal medicine physician Dr. Steven Overby joined The Medical Group in 2000 and has been in private practice since then. The practice joined Baptist Medical Group in January 2013. Overby is also part of the American Board of Internal Medicine’s Maintenance and Certification Program.

I enjoy the daily diversity of conditions and the continuity of care of my patients.

What do you enjoy most about your specialty?

Helping patients solve their medical mysteries and creating a plan for them.

What made you decide to join Baptist?

[I joined Baptist] so I could focus on the business of taking care of patients and not the business of practice administration.

What are some of the future benefits you look forward to from working with Baptist?

Utilizing electronic medical records to enhance the collaboration of care for our patients.

What do you enjoy doing outside of your job?

I enjoy photography, spending time with my family, reading, travel, and collecting Starbucks city coffee mugs.

Who or what inspired you to pursue a medical degree?

My Dad got [me] a Gray’s Anatomy book for Christmas when I was 12; that began my love of medicine.

What is a highlight of your career?

I was asked to join the Mayo Clinic Rochester staff by two physicians because of the thoroughness of my clinical workups.

Where has your career taken you in terms of cities and states?

San Francisco; Washington DC; Charleston, S.C.; Gatlinburg, Tenn.; Nashville, Tenn.; Chicago.

What would you like your Baptist colleagues to know about you?

I truly enjoy my profession.
